MOORE — Monday afternoon fans of the Ellen DeGeneres Show watched as the comedian kicked off the new season of her show by honoring two Moore elementary schools hit by the May 20 tornadoes.
Principals Amy Simpson, Plaza Towers Elementary, and Shelley McMillin, Briarwood Elementary, were surprised when DeGeneres donated $100,000 from Shutterfly to each school.
Students also will each be given a free yearbook courtesy of Shutterfly, which is a site that allows customers to create photo their own photo books, personalize photo cards and stationery, and share photos with their family and friends.
Joining the principals and the hostess via satellite were students from both Plaza Towers Elementary and Briarwood Elementary, who are seen going wild when DeGeneres made the announcement about the donation.
Both teachers said they were surprised by the donation and only expected to be on the show to tell their stories of the events that happened at the schools on May 20 when an E-F5 tornado ripped through Moore.
