Road paving projects back on track

MOORE — Cleveland County commissioners said road work will be back on track next week.

“We’re still fighting some of the losses due to the flooding, but we’re about to get those under control,” District 3 County Commissioner Rusty Sullivan said.

The hot summer months are prime time for asphalt resurfacing projects, but with tornado recovery this spring and flooding taking out roads and culverts recently, county road crews have had their hands full.

District 2 Commissioner Darry Stacy said tornado debris removal in east Cleveland County will be complete by Aug. 15. Stacy said he really appreciated all of the churches and volunteer groups that helped with cleanup efforts.

“Without that help, there is no way we could have gotten that completed,” Stacy said.

District 1 Commissioner Rod Cleveland reported on webinar training costs. The county purchased and installed a new smartboard to enable more employee training without the cost of attending out-of-town classes.

Cleveland said the cost is $245 a month with a $1,500 set-up fee for unlimited users as per the county work force. Cleveland said around 350 employees could train through the new system.

He also invited the sheriff’s department to use the training programs.

“We’re going to try to get something set up this week,” Cleveland said.

Cleveland also reported that the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma’s recent safety conference at Embassy Suites in Norman as very informative and a big success.

Cleveland said 30 employees will be recognized with special safety jackets for years of service without a work-related injury.

Safety protocol protects employees and saves taxpayers’ money, commissioners said.

The annual safety conference presents new information as well as rewarding safety protocol.

“They had an incredible speaker there that put a personal touch on it,” Stacy said.
