Cat show planned in south OKC

MOORE — The Allbreed Cat Show is set for Saturday and Sunday at the Animal Resource Center, 7949 S I-35 Service Road, in Oklahoma City.

“Any cat entered in our show can also be in our costumed cat contest which will take place Saturday at noon,” said show entry clerk Lena Voerster. “It’s fun watching what owners can come up with for costumes and watching the cats actually wearing them. Can you imagine a cat in a tutu or with angel wings and a halo? It’s good fun,” Voerster said.

The costumed cat contest will be just one highlight of the show which is open to pedigreed cats and non-pedigreed household pets. Each cat will be judged eight times, with eight chances to win rosettes and points toward even bigger wins.

“The pedigreed cats are judged against the Cat Fanciers Association standards of conformation written for each breed,” said show manager Janis Walkingstick.

The household pets are judged on health and beauty.

“Our show is sanctioned by the Cat Fanciers Association which is the largest cat registration association in the world,” Walkingstick said. “Forty breeds are eligible to enter CFA shows and several hundred cats are expected to be entered at our April show.”

The Oklahoma City Cat Club is hosting the annual event.

In addition to watching the judging and speaking with cat breeders, spectators may visit the vendors who will have pet related items for sale. A cat rescue group also will have some pets up for adoption.

The cat show will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Tickets are $4 for adults, tickets for seniors (65 and over) and children from 5 to 12 are $3. There is no charge for children under 5.
