Bible has something for all

MOORE — While waiting at a pharmacy for a prescription to be filled I sat in the waiting area. A clever store clerk moved magazines to a special unit under the counter for customers who were waiting to thumb through as they passed the time.

In all there were about 30 different magazines, ranging from garden, food, fashion, gossip, magazines for teens, for women, for the ultra-chic woman and for men.

It was interesting to read the covers of the magazines. There was a common denominator for each one — numbers. “57 Hairstyles to Look Younger,” “450 of Fall’s Best Jeans, Boots and Bags,” “253 New Fall Looks,” “367 New Beauty Ideas,” “100 Cool Buys Under $99,” “50 Perfect Autumn Outfits For The Workplace,” “25 Best Desserts,” “7 Secrets to Weight Loss” and “Perfect Abs in 7 Days.”

Seems like every magazine competed with the other to top the number of items featured in this month’s edition. At the top of the display there was a sign: “Must Read Magazines.” They were pretty on-target if you’re into the latest fads, gossip, exercise programs, fashion and home décor.

There’s another book, thousands of years old, with so much to offer one can barely begin to list all that is written therein. For example, there are 302 verses about peace, 304 verses about love, 164 with joy, 89 about being glad, 37 with flowers, 198 that mention trees, 391 that have to do with the sea, 281 with mountains, 274 that talk about rest, 54 with food, 81 about sleep, 49 about beauty, 24 about jewels, 27 about wealth, 49 with need, 65 that talk about comfort, 49 about someone being healed, 198 about angels and 40 about compassion.

If you stop to think about it, the Bible has something for everyone. Just what we need, if we’d only take the time to look.

There are few magazines or books that give you everything you want with room to go back for more.

The perfect answer to anything we seek is God’s word.
