Contractor falsifies lien info

MOORE — A contractor allegedly gave false statements to two Moore homeowners about a lien put on their homes after work supposedly done following the May 20 tornado.

Jeremy Dewayne Owens, 37, of Oklahoma City was charged with two felony counts of a false statement about a lien by a contractor on Oct. 1 in Cleveland County District Court.

According to the affidavit filed with the charges, Owens placed liens on two Moore residences on SW 1st Street stating work had been done and materials supplied when the work had actually not been done. One was a $13,600 lien and the other was a $13,200 lien.

One home’s roof was tarped in two places by Owens on May 23, following the tornado that tore through Moore, but no other work appeared to have been done or started, the affidavit said.

Work was said to have occurred on the other home on June 10, but no work appeared to have been done, the document said.

Owens directed Moore police to his attorney regarding the matter. The attorney advised police the contractor fee, $500, is valid, as his client prepared to work on the residence, according to the affidavit.

The document states the attorney said the liens were for work that was done and will be done in the future.

Owens has been convicted of several felonies in Oklahoma County, the most recent being in December 2006. He was convicted of or pled guilty to two counts of possession of controlled dangerous substance and aggravated attempt to elude police.

Records dating back to 1999 show Owens was convicted of attempting to obtain merchandise under false pretenses and obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud.
