May we all give thanks

MOORE — In eight days it will be Thanksgiving. It seems like we just put Easter baskets away and now Thanksgiving is at our doorstep.

Being thankful sometimes comes without thought, like today when we glanced out our patio door and saw a strand of ordinary leaves transformed into golden glistening teardrops as the sun danced through them, a totally amazing sight we almost missed, but thankfully we were given the opportunity to enjoy.

God is so good in how He watches over us and those we love. Not just for the things we “need,” but He even gives us things we desire.

For the past year, we’ve known our son wanted a new game system that was slated for sales at retail outlets on Friday. He lives in California now, and when he got to the first location, people had been camped out all night waiting to be one of the select few to purchase the unit.

The second place equaled the first in the number of anxious young people longing to get their hands on the game and try it out.

Something told him to go to an off company — pretty obscure for a high-tech item such as this, but off he went. When he arrived, the manager was just opening the door.

A group of young people dashed inside the store. Not knowing where they were headed, but assuming they were there for the same reason he was, he joined the happy throng.

Someone was passing out numbers and gave our son one – he was No. 7.

“So how many gaming devices do you have for sale?” he asked the girl passing out the numbers.

“Twenty. So you’re certain to purchase one today,” she happily told him.

Sure enough, not long afterward he waltzed out the door, (more like floated on cloud nine) into his car and off to another department store to purchase yet another special — a buy two games, get one free deal.
