A gentle reminder

MOORE — The day had been exhausting and the only thing I wanted to do was to take a quick nap before dinner in order to get through the tasks needing to be completed before bedtime.

As soon as my head hit the pillow and my eyes closed, bells rang. It wasn’t a dream. I heard the bells just like the old song says, “their old familiar carols play.”

It could have been from a church several miles away, but why they would ring about 6 p.m. was a mystery. Perhaps there was a funeral mass being held and the “call to worship” played.

Whatever the reason, it was a blissful way to doze off for my nap. When I awakened 30 minutes later I felt refreshed. Not only from the nap, but from the peaceful sound of the bells. It was a gentle reminder that I am not alone.

Naturally, that triggered another thought about God’s promises. Though the actual number of God’s promises in the Bible is uncertain, it is estimated that there are about 7,000.

Some have recorded 30,000 promises, but since there are only about 33,000 verses in the Bible, this amount seems doubtful.

Here are a few of my favorite:

“I will never leave you nor forsake you, I am with you always.” (Jesus said this.)

“But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus.”

“Surely Goodness and Mercy shall follow you all the days of your life.”

“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper.”

“Ask and it shall be given you.”

“In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.”

“I The Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not.”

“Call upon Me in the day of trouble and I will deliver thee.”

“Peace give I to thee.”

“The Lord is nigh upon all them that call upon Him.”

“I will not leave you comfortless.”

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

So many beautiful promises, such a loving Lord.

We are truly blessed.
