MOORE — Moore

The Moore Public Library brings some Mexican culture inside its doors as its annual Culture Jam commemorates El Dia de los Muertos – The Day of the Dead — from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in Rooms A and B of the library, 225 S. Howard Ave.

The event features a variety of family-friendly activities throughout the afternoon.

At noon, musical duo Alegria Real will entertain the audience with its music. From 1 to 2 p.m., students from Moore’s Platt College will give demonstrations of various types of cultural food. And from 2 to 3 p.m., library staff will present a variety of craft projects and share stories from cultural books.

And, guests should check out the library’s Story Time Room to see an art exhibit presented by students from Southmoore High School.

Registration is not required to attend the event.

 · The Moore Reads book discussion group continues its monthly series of discussions with a look at “Distant Hours” by Kate Morton at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in the Conference Room of the library, 225 S. Howard Ave.

The group is for ages 18 and up and generally meets the fourth Thursday of the month.

Copies of each month’s selected book can be picked up at the library’s Information Desk. In November, the group will be reading and discussing “Nineteen Minutes” by Jody Picoult

Registration is not required to take part.

Southwest OKC

The Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library welcomes acclaimed local artist Mike Wimmer to a special edition of its Saturday Story Time, set for 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the library, 2201 SW 134th St.

The story time will feature the book “Home Run: The Story of Babe Ruth,” illustrated by Wimmer and written by Robert Burleigh. Wimmer will discuss his efforts on that book and others, as well as his contributions on a number of other noted projects.
