Student serves two-year mission in Italy

MOORE — Westmoore High School senior Preston John Taylor will leave July 24 to serve a two-year mission in the Italy Milan Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Before going to Italy, Taylor will spend six weeks in the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, Utah, learning Italian and studying the teachings of Jesus Christ.

“I am absolutely ecstatic to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” Taylor said.

“The reason I want to serve as a full-time missionary is very simple: I love the Lord. I want to share with others what has brought me so much happiness in life and that is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“I am looking forward to getting to know and love the people of Italy through my service, and I am very excited to embrace the Italian culture and environment.”

Missionary work will not be entirely new to Preston, since he moved from North Salt Lake City with his family nearly three years ago when his parents, Nolan and Rhonda Taylor, were called to serve as missionaries in the Oklahoma City Mission for the church.

His father serves as the mission president to 168 young adult missionaries and 11 senior couples who share the gospel of Jesus Christ and provide numerous hours of community service. Their full-time missionary service comes to an end in June.

Taylor recently received the State Superintendent Award for the Arts for choir. An accomplished performer, Taylor participated in numerous musical productions at Sooner Theatre in Norman, including “High School Musical” (as Troy Bolton); “The Secret Garden” (as Albert Lennox); “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (as Levi); “Footloose” (as Ren); “Crazy For You” (as Bobby Child); “White Christmas” (in the dance ensemble); “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” (as Finch); and “Hello Dolly!” (as Ambrose). Taylor also participated in several Westmoore High School musical productions, including “Seussical,” “Guys and Dolls” and “The Music Man.”
