MOORE — JoEllen Holt was born Nov. 2, 1929, in Oklahoma City. She passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side Sunday, March 2, 2014.

She retired in 1986 from FAA after 31 years of work by helping with various research projects. She had a passion for helping others and by volunteering her time to the Contact Crisis Line and Integris Health Breast Cancer research.

JoEllen enjoyed bowling and was part of many leagues. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. Some of her favorite things were Elvis, Betty Boop, sea gulls, OU football and watching her great-grandchildren participating in their activities.

She was known by many names, JoEllen, Jody, Jo and Granny Jo. She never met a stranger and her friends all became family which was one of the most important things in her life. Granny Jo touched us all in a way that no one will be able to forget. Her love and compassion was unmeasurable and incomparable.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Holt and wife Margaret Mappin-Holt; grandchildren, Jeff Holt, Heather Brown and husband Michael, Julie Martin and husband Jeremy, and Jerri-Lynn Espinosa; great-grandchildren Joseph, Alexandria, Tyler, Stephen, Jacobie, Cole, Bradley and Neena; with many lifelong friends and pets that brought much joy to her life. She will be missed but never forgotten.

Services will take place at 7 p.m. today in the chapel of John M. Ireland Funeral Home, Moore.
