Melvin Leroy Dancer

MOORE — Melvin Leroy Dancer, 76, was born Feb. 7, 1937, in Chickasha, to John W. Dancer and Nora Ames Dancer.

Melvin passed suddenly at his home in Moore on June 25, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; stepmother, Celia Dancer of Clinton; brother, Donald Dancer of Reedley, Calif.; sister, Doris Dancer Snider of Cache; and wife, Janie Pribil Dancer.

Melvin is survived by his sisters, Patricia Pather of Spokane, Wash. and Caroline Cole of Clinton; sister-in-law, Betty Dancer of Reedley, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as scores of friends from Tinker Air Force Base and the members of his parish family at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Moore.

Melvin began a distinguished career in federal service when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959. His many tours of duty took him to Fort Knox, Ky., Korea, Ft. Sill and Germany where he graduated from Non Commissioned Officers school. He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam before retiring from the army. He was recommended for the Silver Star and received many medals during his long army career.

He continued his career in federal service at Tinker Air Force Base and was recommended for the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award in recognition of his distinguished service as a federal employee from Oct. 21 1959 (U.S. Army), to May 28, 2004.

Melvin and his wife, Janie, married in 1968 at Bison.

They lived many places before settling in Moore in the early 1980s. They had been married 38 years at the time of her passing on April 4, 2006.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Moore. He will be greatly missed.

A vigil service was June 30 and a Mass of Christian Burial was Monday. Both services were celebrated at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Moore. Services were under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel in Moore.
