Sammie Ray ‘Sam’ Mobly

MOORE — Sammie Ray “Sam” Mobly, 73, of Moore, passed away April 26, 2013. He was born Aug. 9, 1939, in Chickasha, to Dock and Ruby (Chapman) Mobly.

Services were 10 a.m. Monday at Southgate Baptist Church in Moore. Interment followed at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City.

Sam retired from the Moore Public School System and was the director of athletic maintenance. He took care of all of the athletic fields and was very proud of it.

Sam was a member of Southgate Baptist Church and faithfully served as chairman of the ushers.

He loved music and sang in a quartet at church. At one time, he led the music at a church in California. Sam was an avid golfer. He loved to pester people and was known for it.

Sam never met a stranger. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. Every time he went out, he saw someone he knew. Sam belonged to the “Southside Bums,” and Shirley was the “Saint of Cyril.”

His wife, Shirley, was the love of his life and he tells that he fell in love with her the first time he saw her. He asked her to go steady on their first date.

Sam was very proud of his lawn and it was always immaculate. People would go over there and take their shoes off and walk on it and sit on it because it was perfectly manicured.

Sam enjoyed maintaining his home and decorating for the holidays. He was known for his “Sam Burgers.”

Sam was very much of a family man. He was an amazing “Granddad,” as he was known by from his grandchildren. Sam was crazy about them. He adored babies.

His first love was his wife, Shirley, and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sam will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
