George Skinner

MOORE — George E. Skinner passed away peacefully Monday, May 6, 2013 in Norman, Oklahoma. George was born Nov. 8, 1935, to Glennis and Jessie Skinner in Oklahoma City.

After graduating from Capitol Hill High School in 1953, George married his wife of 58 years, Martha Muzny. George managed Safeway stores for many years before being elected as Cleveland County Commissioner in 1990. He served in that office until 2012.

Commissioner Skinner left a legacy of hard work, honesty and integrity. His commitment to public service in Cleveland County was unmatched. He served on the boards of several organizations, including the Cleveland County Board of Health, the Association of County Commissioners, Community Service Building Inc., the Workforce Development and Workforce Investment Agency, and McKenzie Gardens Housing Center.

George was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church where he attained the distinction of Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. George enjoyed traveling to Disney World in Florida with his family, where he once shined in his starring role as Davy Crockett’s angel in the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who will always remember him as their “Papaw.”

In his spare time, George loved sitting in his recliner chair watching Westerns on his new big-screen television. George will now forever be eating chicken fried steak, enchiladas and apple pie with American cheese in Heaven.
