Cecil Curtis Shroyer

MOORE — Cecil Curtis Shroyer, 85, of Moore, passed from this life Monday, July 22, 2013. Born May 11, 1928, in Moore, to Philip and Dorothea Shroyer, Cecil married his soul mate Barbara Rycroft on May 19, 1949, at the First United Methodist Church of Moore. He was a member there since 1947 and became a pillar of the church community, serving on the visitation team, welcoming new members and participating in Methodist men group. Hospitalized church members could rely on Cecil and Barbara to be in the waiting room, regardless of whether they knew them personally.

Cecil was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener who loved travel. His favorite childhood trip was to the World’s Fair in New York. Every year Cecil took his family on a three-week vacation; always a road trip, and always camping. Catching a 67-pound salmon in Alaska was one of the many treasured travel memories.

Cecil received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air National Guard after serving his country during the Korean conflict. He became a hydraulic specialist at Tinker Air Force Base, and retired at the age of 57.

Cecil was a wonderful and well-respected man who will be genuinely missed by all who knew and loved him. A family man, he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His wife Barbara was the absolute love of his life; they were inseparable and a true testiment of what marriage was all about.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara; one son, Philip Shroyer and wife Sandy of Boston; one daughter, Pamela Teel and husband Roger of Moore; four grandchildren, Brooke Perez and husband Jason of Moore, Grayson Shroyer of Dallas, Ashley Teel of Moore and Amelia Shroyer of Berlin; two great-grandchildren, Kent and Brie Perez of Moore; two brothers, Clyde Shroyer of Noble and Dewey Shroyer and wife Betty of Jones; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Moore. Interment will follow at Moore Cemetery.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Cecil’s honor to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 201 W. Main St., Moore, OK 73160. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore.
