Recognition by your peers is a high form of flattery. That's what is happening in the past few weeks for Norman firefighters and police officers.

Team York, made up of Norman firefighters, finished third in a national firefighter challenge competition held in California. It demonstrates firefighter fitness and demonstrates the profession's rigors to the public.

In addition, a team of "over 40" firefighters competed in the Challenge and qualified for the world championship meet. They are sponsored by the local Sonic Drive-Ins.

Across the tracks, Norman police officers made up six of the state's top 20 pistol shooters at the state police pistol match held here earlier this month. The team, sponsored by Republic Bank, also had six individual first place finishers.
