Area Notebook: SaberCats, Jaguars, Lions

Tucker garners All-State nod; Jags smash Lions on diamond

The SaberCats (Darrian Moss, Adams, William Gilbert Harmon, Aaron Holder, Johnathan Martin) finished third in the 4x200 relay and second in the 4x400. Westmoore (Elijah Weaver, Bowen, Miller, Davis) grabbed the 4x800 relay.

On the girls side the Lady Jaguars were seventh, Lady SaberCats are 11th and Moore fell to 15th.

Southmoore's Jamia Shepard took second in the shot put with a toss of 36-feet, 10 inches. She was four feet behind Paige Houston of Midwest City.

Westmoore's Mary Balogun took fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.06. Lauren Haynes was fifth at 1:03.31. Norman North's Haley Woodard won the event in a 58.18.

Area teams will be in action Friday at the John Jacobs Invitational at the University of Oklahoma track.

The postseason honors keep rolling in for Southmoore Kayla Tucker. Last week the senior guard was named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association's All-State girls team and The Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State game.

Tucker averaged 13.4 points per game in leading the SaberCats to a 22-6 record and a spot in the state tournament.

Tucker, who signed to play basketball at Alabama State, will be joined on both roster's by Norman's Bethany Cox.

The OGBCA All-State game is set for June and will be played at Westmoore High. The OCA game will take place in July at Oral Roberts.

OU Softball

On the day she earned her 116th win to become the winningest pitcher in Oklahoma history, Keilani Ricketts showed Baylor exactly why she’s the defending USA Softball player of the year.

The senior allowed just four hits in a complete-game shutout of No. 17 Baylor, and top-ranked OU did enough at the plate to pull out a 8-0 six-inning run-rule victory to sweep the first Big 12 series of the season. The win moved Ricketts past Jennifer Stewart into sole possession of first place on the all-time wins list in program history.

Ricketts was at her best for much of the day Sunday, going perfect through three innings.
