Jaguars finding different ways to to keep winning

MOORE — For three weeks, Westmoore’s offense was highlighted by its passing attacking. Quarterback Bryson Lee tossing aerial bombs to Dahu Green, Desean Lookout and a cast of other capable receivers.

Bixby High coaches saw the same game films and decided when they faced the Jaguars in week four, they were going to shut down the aerial onslaught. That turned out to be a mistake also.

Led by Kieron Hardrick, Westmoore pounded out a 37-29 victory at Bixby Friday to move to 4-0 on the season.

“They were playing really soft in the back trying not to give up any deep balls,” Westmoore coach Billy Langford said of Bixby. “To be able to do both is encouraging. Our offensive line guys played the best they’ve play all year so far.”

After scoring three touchdowns in the opener, Hardrick had put up modest number. But the senior took advantage of the predicament Bixby’s defense was put in by racking up more than 200 yards on the ground.

“Hardrick had over 200 yards rushing,” Langford said. “He had a couple of long runs. Had a 40 yard run on first possession of the game. And when wen needed it, the last touchdown was a 73 yard run right up the middle. They couldn’t catch him. He had a good game.”

The Jaguars also got solid games from Matt Day (15 tackles), Jacob Tilley (11 tackles) and Cassius Hill, who returned a interception for a touchdown to go along with 10 tackles.

But Langford was not pleased with what he saw in the second half from his team. After leading by 20 points, Westmoore allowed Bixby to fight their way back into the game with their own with three deep passes for touchdowns.

“It started out in the first half good,” Langford said. “We were up 27-7 at halftime. Just kind of sputtered in the second half. Made enough plays and responded when we needed to. Defensive guys got stops when we needed to and scored when we needed to answer some of their scores in the second half.
