Lynch leads MACU to split with Lady Rams

MOORE — OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels split with the Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams Saturday at Jack Allen Field. The Lady Evangels were able to take the first game by a score of 2-1 while the Lady Rams came through in extra innings in the second game to take the win 7-6.

Hannah Lynch came through in the bottom of the first with two outs with a solo homerun to put MACU in the lead 1-0. Alvarez was able to get on base in the top of the second for the Lady Rams, but was left stranded.

Taryn Callendar led off the third inning with a single to center field, where Tiffany Holt came through to move her over with a sacrifice bunt, but Callendar was left stranded.

On Senior Day, it was senior Amber Tinney starting for the Lady Evangels and keeping the Lady Rams off the bases in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. MACU was still ahead 1-0 leading into the seventh, until Lauren Davis hit a solo homerun to tie the game 1-1.

MACU was not ready to give up though and in the bottom of the seventh, Natalie Bissell started off with a walk, where she was able to advance to second on Jackie Hilterbran’s single to center field.

Katie Gracey then grabbed the walk off hit by singling to right field to score Bissell.

Tinney was successful in her seven innings of work on the mound by giving up four hits and striking out seven.

In the nightcap, the Lady Evangels got going early in the bottom of the first when Ashley Sanford reached first on a fielder’s choice and scored on Hilterbran’s single to left field. Lynch came through to single to center to score Sanford to give MACU a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Evangels remained ahead until the third when Tucker reached on a walk and scored on Chelsea Anderson’s double.

The fourth inning is when the Lady Rams broke through with five runs off of six hits to take a five-run lead.

The Lady Evangels answered with five of their own in the bottom of the inning when Natalie Bissell made sure to start the inning off right by getting a homerun to left field to bring the Lady Evangels within 6-2.

Carson Osborne then singled to right field and advanced on Callendar’s walk and Kenna Mccoy was able to get Osborne home on a single to left field. Callendar and Mccoy then scored on a wild throw, where Green reached on a walk. Hilterbran came through with another single to score Green to put the ball game tied 6-6.

The top of the eighth is when the Lady Rams scored two runs to take the lead 8-6 on RBI doubles by Amber Marlett and Ashley Seibel.

In the bottom of the eighth, Osborne started off with a single and advanced Katie Gracey to third from the international tie breaker. Gracey was able to score on Callendar’s hard hit ball to short stop, but the Lady Evangels came up one run short.
