Swisher leading MACU

MOORE — Mid-America Christian University junior forward Chelsea Swisher has been voted as the Sooner Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today (Sept. 9).

Swisher, a native of Moore, powered the Lady Evangels to a 6-2 victory over the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars with a career-high three goals on Saturday (Sept. 7). The first goal of Swisher’s hat trick proved to be the game-winner.

Kaci Power and Ciara Mitchell each scored two goals and Swisher blew by a MACU single-game record with five assists as the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Southwestern College (Kan.) Lady Builders Saturday afternoon (Sept. 14) at MACU Soccer Field.  Swisher’s five assists are also tied for fifth all-time in the NAIA for a single-game and are the most since the 2010 season.

Swisher assisted on the first five Lady Evangels’ goals, starting with two consecutive scores by Power just eight minutes apart after Abbie Woods had given the Lady Builders a short-lived 1-0 lead.

Swisher then helped on the Lady Evangels’ next three scores by Mitchell, Rochelle Bohuslavicky and Taylor Moseley.  The last two assists by Swisher were well executed crosses to the middle of the box.

Mitchell then finished out the offensive barrage with an assist from Michelle Medina at the 84:48 mark.

MACU starting goalkeeper Kenady Maynard allowed one goal and made one save in the first half before giving way to Kaitlyn Whitten in the second.  Whitten blanked the Lady Builders over the final 45:00 and recorded four saves.

The Lady Evangels out-shot the Lady Builders 23-6 overall and 13-6 on-goal, led by Powers’ seven shots and four shots-on-goal.

MACU will next play at Friends University next tonight (Sept. 18) at 6 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.
