Swisher earns spot on all-region team; Stars dominate

MOORE — The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels have placed five student-athletes on the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-Central Regional squad, the organization announced last night (Nov. 26).

Junior forward Chelsea Swisher and sophomore defender Rachel Lynn were first-team selections, with senior midfielder Michelle Medina and sophomore forward Ciara Mitchell earning second-team honors.  Junior forward Kaci Power was an honorable-mention performer.

Swisher put together a record-breaking year for the Lady Evangels, setting school single-season marks in points (52), goals (19) and assists (14). She also blasted a team-leading four game-winning scores. Lynn was a key component for a defensive unit that posted five shutouts on the season.

Medina anchored the midfield this year and also dished out two assists.  Mitchell made an immediate impact in her first season with the program, tying for second on the team with 13 goals and five helpers.

After an injury cost her the entire 2012 season, Power returned with a vengeance, finishing tied for second on the team with 13 goals along with one assist.  She also scored a team season-high four goals in a 5-0 win over Ozarks (Mo.) back on Sept. 20.

The Lady Evangels advanced to the semifinals of the NCCAA Central Regional Tournament before falling 4-3 to Oklahoma Wesleyan University (Nov. 22).

Stars wrestling– Oklahoma City University toppled Missouri Baptist 25-10 Wednesday at Abe Lemons Arena in a matchup of two top-20 squads in NAIA wrestling.

The Stars, ranked No. 18 in the NAIA, won seven of the 10 matches and cruised to the 25-10 victory over No. 17 Missouri Baptist. OCU is now 2-1 in duals this season.

Freshman Adrian Gaines gave OCU an early seven-point lead when he pinned Demarcus Gurrly in six minutes and 53 seconds at 125 pounds. Missouri Baptist was assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty and docked one team point after the match.
