After Lawton missed a 42-yard field goal, Westmoore made them pay. Led by Kieron Hardrick gashing the Wolverines up the middle, the Jags drove to the 2-yard line. Lee rammed through the line on the next play to put the Jaguars up 21-0 at halftime.
Westmoore’s defense completely shell shocked the Wolverines in the first half. Not only were the Jags gang tackling LHS, they brought ferocious hits along with them in the frigid temperatures.
“Swarm to the ball, that’s what we do,” Channel said. “They played into our game plan. Everywhere they go with the ball, that’s where we were at. I believe that first half they were in shock.”
In the third quarter Lawton’s Dewayne Doucette recovered a Hardrick fumble which gave the LHS sideline a bit of life. But they were unable able to get any points off the turnover when quarterback Dallas Sealey missed an open Myykhail Shaw on a deep pass down the middle that was just off his fingertips. They ended up turning over on downs.
Once again, the Jaguars took advantage of Lawton’s miscues. Lee led the offense on a 6-minute, 29-second drive to end the third period. It concluded with Lee diving over the goal line for a 1-yard touchdown.
Lawton trailed 28-0 in the fourth quarter.
The Wolverines got late touchdowns by Ivan Thomas and Warren. But it was too little too late as Westmoore held on to win.
Lee finished the day with 97 yards rushing, 73 yards passing and accounted for four touchdowns. Hardrick ran for 89 yards on 13 carries.
“It’s probably the greatest feeling ever,” Lee said. “I thought we would be in the game, but I didn’t think we would handle them that well.”
The Jags came into the game knowing they had to shut Warren down if they had any shot at pulling off the upset. They held 6A’s leading rusher to 111 yards on the day, 108 yards below his average.
“I think we really came together as a group,” Westmoore’s Devon Brewer said. “We knew we were the underdog. With this defense, we just feed off each other. That’s what we’re known for, our physicality and speed to the football. We just played that really well tonight.”
