Swim teams hitting their marks Area squads back in action Jan. 15 at Putnam City Invitational

The Westmoore swim team has also had a solid first half of the season. At the Lawton meet, the boys 200 freestyle relay qualified for state as did Alexis Trinh in the 500 freestyle.

“The season has been good so far,” Jaguars coach Brent Long said. “The girls have qualified in all three relays and the boys have qualified in two of the three relays. Daniel Pham has qualified in every event except the 500 free. Alexis Trinh has qualified in the 100 free, 200 free and the 500 free. Tiffany Pham, Christine Nguyen, London Donaldson, and Jonathan Yoon are extremely close to qualifying in several events.”

When the season began, Long was looking to build up his squad and the program. And that starts in practice. He is seeing the results of their work.

“The expectations were to become a very good practice team and we are accomplishing that,” Long said. “I also wanted to qualify all of the relays for state and we are one away from doing that. Finally, I wanted to qualify at least five individuals for state and we have two that have qualified and few that are really close. We need to put together some real productive practices and make that final push to improve our times before we start to taper off in mid to late January.”

The Westmoore, Southmoore and Moore swim teams will be back in action Jan. 15 at the Putnam City Invite at Oklahoma City Community College.
