MOORE — Former Moore High standout Drew Wright of Oklahoma City University has been tabbed a National Fastpitch Coaches Association NAIA softball 2nd team all-American.

Wright had a .382 average, 16 doubles, a triple, 12 homers and 65 RBIs. She led the NAIA with 150 assists while ranking 10th in runs driven in. The Stars season came to an end in the NAIA Championships. Wright had to play in the postseason as her home town was enduring the effects of a major tragedy.

Below, in her own words, Wright described she was dealing with when Moore was struck by the May 20th tornado.

“As I sit on this bus on my way to the national tournament, my heart is not with me. My heart is with my town, my neighbors, my friends, my family, my people. One of the hardest things I’ve ever done is leave a place I was born and raised that is now in ruins. As I was telling my parents that I had no business leaving Moore, that people needed me there. He told me one thing, ‘Go play for Moore, represent your home.’ Well, I will do my best. There is not a place in the world that I would rather call my home. Every single person is with me wherever I go, and I am with y’all. You all are in my every single thought, my every dream, and my every prayer. When I compete for the last time, Moore will be a part of every ball I throw, every base I touch, and every step I take. Here’s to coming out stronger. It is what us Mooreons do. Love you all.”
