MOORE — The Westmoore fastpitch team came close to winning its first tournament of the season Saturday in Norman. Playing in the OU tourney, it met of with No. 1 Cache (4A) in the championship game before losing 4-3

“Cache is a good team,” Westmoore coach Jenny Rollins said .”I felt like we hit the ball well the entire game, however, we did not start scoring until the sixth inning which minimized our opportunities. I feel like the team did a very good job coming back in that game. I like that they kept fighting and did not give up because we were down.”

The ninth-ranked Jaguars were 4-2 overall on the weekend. That included wins over Meeker, Bethany, Red Oak and Berryhill. Their only other loss was to Chickasha.

“They played very well, with exception to a couple innings in the Chickasha game,” Rollins said. “Overall I was happy with their play and hope this causes a momentum shift for us in the coming weeks.”

Rollins said she got a strong effort up and down the lineup. Larie Amos threw in every game while Raeven Clark was 3 for 3 against Berryhill with three homeruns.

“Honestly, they all played well,” said Rollins. “We had kids step in and play positions they had not played all year, as we lost Mariah (shortstop) on the first day which caused some shifts, but they just kept playing. The kids who stepped in did well, it is nice to have kids come off the bench and fill spots and not have to worry about them being able to get the job done.”

The Jaguars were back at work Monday when they hosted Edmond Santa Fe in a district game. They started off the jam-packed week with an 8-5 loss to the Wolves.

Westmoore will be on the road the rest of the week when they play Midwest City Thursday and US Grant Friday. It returns home Monday to host Little Axe.

“I want to see the same play I saw out of them this weekend,” Rollins said. “The OU tournament was a huge turning point for us, as we had been struggling in previous weeks. If we can keep this momentum through play-offs I will be very pleased.”
