MOORE — Looking for their first of the season, Moore had a chance to knock off Norman March 5 at NHS. However, it was the Tigers who made the game-winning plays to take a 2-1 win.

With the scored tied at 1-1, Norman's Matt Hockett lined up a free kick just outside the Lion penalty box, a little to Moore keeper James McNew’s right. Hocket's kick blazed past a wall of MHS defenders and got past Mcnew without him getting a hand on it. That was all the Tigers needed.

Moore (0-2) allowed the Norman to outwork them on the offensive end as Norman held a 17-5 shot advantage. But the Lions defense came up with enough stops and saves to keep the contest close.

Paul Starr gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead 17 minutes in the game. But the Lions John Perkins booted a game-tying kick 40 from yards out that went over the head of Andrew Arledge.

“I thought we were very strong,” Norman coach Gordon Drummond said. “You hold a team to five shots and that’s really impressive. Moore is a very, very improved team.”

The Lions are back in action Friday when they travel to Stillwater.

Norman High girls 5, Moore 1: The Tigers needed just 9 minutes to establish its first lead and 20 more minutes to make it 2-0. Moore answered before the half was over but the Tigers added three more scores in the second half.
