Postseason picks up steam

MOORE — Class 6A soccer brackets have been released, and both Norman High and Norman North are hosting.

Both the North girls and boys will host Southmoore in the first round, while NHS will host Westmoore in the opening round May 6. The two schools could also be set to meet each other in the second round for a postseason edition of the Crosstown Clash set at North on May 9.

Soccer isn’t the only sport opening the postseason. Boys’ golf regionals will be played on Monday, and track regionals will take place May 10. NHS and Westmoore will compete at Putnam City, while North and Southmoore will compete at Deer Creek and Moore will travel to Claremore.

The girls’ state golf tournament will be played on May 7-8 at Ponca City Golf and Country Club, and several area athletes will be competing. While Southmoore is the only team that qualified, NHS’ Tess Hartog, North’s Kaitlyn Milligan and Westmoore’s Vi Hoang all qualified as individuals.

The girls’ regionals was played Monday, with North and Westmoore playing at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center. NHS and Southmoore will travel to Bixby to compete at the host school. Moore will play at Ponca City. The state tournament will begin Friday.

On the boys’ side, regionals will be played May 12. North, Moore and Westmoore will play at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center, while NHS will travel to Bixby and Southmoore will play in Ponca City.

North locks up top seed: With its come-from-behind victory over Westmoore last week, Norman North guaranteed itself the District 6A-2 baseball title, and with it the top seed at the regional the T-Wolves will host.

North was the only team in Class 6A to make it through the district schedule undefeated, and the Timberwolves will reap the benefits when they open regionals next week. As the winner of District 6A-2, North (23-10) will host the eighth-place finisher from District 6A-1, U.S. Grant (7-21). The other teams confirmed for the regional are Choctaw (19-14) and Edmond Memorial (16-19), which North defeated twice earlier this season.

Despite the loss, Westmoore is still hosting a regional May 7-9. It will include Lawton High, Mustang and Midwest City.

The Jaguars face LHS at 11 a.m. today in the opening round.
