Southmoore’s Henry comes up short at state tennis tourney

MOORE — It was a big week for several local athletes who competed in state tournaments last week.

Southmoore’s Ashlea Mahn came in 18th at the girls state golf championships May 7-8. She shot a 169 over two days and was them highest placing area golfer.

The SaberCats Taylor Peden tied for 38th with a score of 182.


Southmoore’s Jordan Henry was the top seed at the state tennis tournament May 9-10 at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center. She cruised through tournament without losing a set in the first three rounds.

Henry met up with Madison Westby of Bishop Kelly in finals and Westby won 6-2, 6-2.

Henry settled for second place in class 6A No. 1 singles.


Mid-America Christian University junior outfielder/ pitcher Jackie Hilterbran and junior first baseman/ pitcher Ashley Sanford have each been named to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-Central Regional squad, the organization announced last night (May 11). 

Hilterbran was the Lady Evangels’ leading hitter for the second straight season with a team-high .376 batting average along with a team-best 65 hits on the season.

She hit three home runs with 34 RBI and also contributed on the mound with a 2.75 earned-run-average over 20 1/3 innings.
