Area teams have good showings over weekend

The Lady Lions found themselves trailing 24-8 after eight minutes of action. Choctaw took advantage of multiple first half turnovers and turned them into easy fastbreak points.

Moore slowed the Yellowjackets’ attack down somewhat in the second half, but just didn’t have enough firepower to make up any ground.

Choctaw Freshman Ana Llanusa led all scorers with 22 points.

Amanda Patterson paced the Lions with 17 points. Ashlie Rose added 11.

After seven straight losses, the SaberCats broke their streak with a win over THS in the seventh place game at the John Nobles Tourney.

Southmoore’s struggles without injured forward Serithia Hawkins continued in the first two games of the tourney when they fell to Ponca City and Muskogee.

Yukon girls 41, Westmoore 36: The Jaguars cruised to the finals of the NewCastle Invitational with easy wins over Yukon JV and Bethel. But they were unable to get past the Millers in the championship bout.

“We really played pretty well,” Westmoore coach ANdrea Guziec said. “We had a few too many turnovers against Yukon, but played hard and competed to win.

Guards Sydney Chastain and Ashley Gomez were named to the all tournament team. The Jags also got strong play from Kaci Richardson and Victoria Lay.
