MOORE — The Southmoore boys track and field team went into the regional meet shorthanded. Junior Jalen Adams was unable to run due to a minor leg injury he sustained the week before at mid-State.
As a sophomore Adams placed in the 100 and 200 meter sprints and was looking forward to going for gold this year. Unfortunately, he will not be able to run at the state meet Friday and Saturday at Yukon High.
Adams teammate Williams Gilbert Harmon will be at the state meet as he attempts to win the 300-meter hurdles. He took second at the regional meet with a time of 39.82. He might have won if he hadn’t hit the second to last hurdle, a problem he’s had much of the season. Edmond’s Micah Fontaine won the event at 39.32.
Also earning a spot at state was Kartrell Henderson, who won the long jump with a leap of 21-02, Aaron Holder (long jump) and the boys 4x400 relay team of Harmon, Johnathon Martin, Darnell Nick and a runner to be named later.
The Southmoore girls didn’t have the same success. Jamie Shepard took second in the shot put with a toss of 36-feet-10 inches. She was the only Lady SaberCat to place and advance to state.
At the Edmond North regional meet, the Westmoore boys dominated the field events. Austin Stone (53-07) took home the shot put title, Cassius Hill (21-04) grabbed the long jump and Jayce Martinez won the pole vault (13-06). Hill also placed fourth in the high jump.
The Jags also had success on the track side. Alex Davis took first in the mile. Jake Bowen was third. Calvin Miller was second in the 800-meter run. Johnny Randle placed second in 200 meter sprints.
But it was in the relays where Westmoore racked up the big points as they won three of the four races.
Moore’s Brey Jones placed third in the girls discus while Brianna McArthur was fourth in the 300 hurdles.
For the Lady Jags, Savannah Waddell (1,600) Alex Scott (3,200), Lauren Haynes (400) the Lady Jaguars 4x800 relay all advance to state.
