Moore looking to rebound, quickly, from thumping

MOORE — Moore came out of Fridays Big Cat Classic with more than just a lopsided loss. The Lions also suffered a couple of crucial injuries during the 58-14 defeat.

Starting tailback Ryan Lujan has a severely bruised knuckle and is expected to miss this weeks game against U.S. Grant. The senior rushed for 94 yards and got a touchdown against Southmoore before the injury sent him to the bench late in the second half.

MHS senior Jordan Norris also came up injured and left the field on crutches after the game against Southmoore. There is no word on his availability against the Generals Friday.

“No fractures, so that is good news,” MHS coach Todd Watters said. “We will take it day by day on their status.”

Almost as important as the injuries, is the frame of mind of the team. Watters didnt like how the Lions responded to the early onslaught by Southmoore.

“We played about as poorly as we could have,” Watters said. “We played worse this week than we did against Westmoore. We lacked physical aggression and confidence. We did not handle adversity very well.”

Watters said part of the problem has to do with inexperience. Yet, he knows not all of the issues Moore displayed can be chalked up to being young.

“We work hard in practice for the most part,” Watters said. “But we have not learned the game like we should, nor have we transferred what we have learned to the game field. We have to do better at executing our position-specific responsibilities. We only have two starters on offense that are returning at the same position that they played last year. The other nine starters are brand new at their position under the Friday night lights. This lack of experience shows in our lack of aggression and mental mistakes.”

When Moore faces the Generals Friday, it has a great opportunity to not only pick up its first win, but a district victory in the process. Its one the Lions cant afford to let slip away.

“I want to see improvement and more discipline in our position-specific

techniques,” Watters said. “And we need to be a more physical and aggressive team.”
