It's the day before Thanksgiving and my heart skips a beat as each day brings us closer to the Christmas season.

Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent -- Hope. It's amazing how warmth fills our hearts at this time of year as we gather together with family and friends in celebration of Christ's birth.

Hope -- we are blanketed with positive thoughts that during this holy season, love, joy and peace will follow -- and it does.

But first comes hope.

Imagine the shepherds as the angels visited them, telling them to go and see the savior of the world. With hopeful hearts they made the journey to the place where the Christ child lay and instantly they knew their lives would never be the same.

As the first candle for the Advent season is lit, the glow from this single candle illuminates the room and fills us with hope; renewing possibilities we thought were lost.

I used to think a white candle was blah, but now as I look at this white candle, a flawless perfection of all hope brings, it's back to the basics, from the beginning of Christianity, when on that day so long ago, a perfect light brought hope into a dark world.

With all the hustle and bustle of the day-after-Thanksgiving sales, my wish is for everyone to light their own Advent candle for hope; turn out all the lights and watch with wonder as the glow from one single candle changes the entire room.

Hope. It's the perfect way to begin the holiday season.
