The Moore Reads Book Discussion Group hosts its next monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in the conference room of the library, 225 S. Howard Ave.

This month, the featured novel will be “Remarkable Creatures” by Tracy Chevalier.

The group generally meets the final Thursday of most months to will discuss a different title read by each member of the group. Copies of the following month’s titles will be available from the Information Desk of the library.

Upcoming meeting dates and titles for the group include:

March 31 – “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury, this year’s selection for The PLS Big Read

April 28 – “The Paris Wife” by Paula McLain

• Learn about home brewing and soda syrups at SOKC library workshop

Whether you call it “soda” or “pop” or “soda pop,” it’s a popular drink of choice for many. And the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library is giving a lesson into a new way to enjoy the drinks at its Home Brewing and Soda Syrups workshop, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the library, 2201 SW 134th St.

Program presenter William Jones will share his ins and outs of home brewing, and participants will get a chance to make their own custom soda syrup and add sparkling carbonation, before the group gets to do a taste test of the new creations.

The program is for ages 18 and up, and registration is required in advance to attend.

• Embrace the cold at SOKC library’s Winter Party

Winter is in full swing, but the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library plans to celebrate all that cold, combining two favorites of children in an upcoming afterschool event.

The library’s Frozen and Ice Age Winter Party takes place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at the library, 2201 SW 134th St.

The party includes crafts, games, snacks, experiments, stories and more based on the popular winter-themed shows and related books. Children ages 11 and under and their families are invited to attend.

This will be a come-and-go event, and registration is not required in advance to attend.
