Monty Strickland of Washington recently graduated from the Reserve Deputy Sheriff Academy and is the newest reserve deputy for McClain County.

The seven-month long academy covered subjects such as report writing, legal, defensive tactics, firearms, patrol and many other subjects relating to law enforcement.

The graduation was attended by Strickland's family and many from the McClain County Sheriff's Office including Sheriff Don Hewitt, Lt. James Harryman, Reserve Lt. Jerry McConnell, Reserve Deputy Mike Howell and their families.

Those in attendance witnessed Strickland receive two out of the three awards given, for both academics and leadership. Strickland was pinned by his brother, Mark Strickland, who is an Oklahoma City police officer.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to work with the sheriff's office and be able to give back to the citizens of McClain County with my service to the community," Strickland said.

When he is not volunteering with the sheriff's office, Strickland works as the managing broker/Realtor with Coldwell Banker Carousel Realty in Moore where he has specialized in residential home and acreage sales for more than seven years.
