The National Weather Center isn't the only jobsite altering the employment landscape along State Highway 9 on Norman's south side.

The massive Albon Engineering and Manufacturing plant is nearly completed in the Norman Business Park, just east of 24th Avenue SE. The London-based company hopes to have most of the building completed next month.

The Norman plant will build connecting rods and other engine components for major automotive and heavy-duty equipment companies. Business editor Randall Turk reports the first employees are in Essex this week, training at the company's headquarters.

They'll come back and help hire and train the estimated 200 locally-hired workers in hopes of a June startup. It's an exciting time for the company and for Norman's economy which will eventually feel the impact of GM's shutdown in Oklahoma City.
