The suicide bomb attack on a NATO convoy this weekend in Kabul, Afghanistan, reminds us of the dangers our Oklahoma National Guard soldiers face there.

Seventeen people were killed in the attack which is blamed on a Pakistan-based extremist group. No Oklahoma soldiers were reported killed. Officials said a suicide bomber rammed his vehicle packed with explosives into a heavily-armored coalition bus.

The bomber targeted the bus which carried soldiers and civilian contractors working for NATO and the Afghan government. The Haqqanis have been the focus of several military strikes this past month.

The blast will help bolster the U.S. criticism that Pakistan is not doing enough to put down the militants on the side of its border.
