Oil Bowl canceled
Due to weather concerns, the 72nd Annual Oil Bowl was canceled Saturday in Wichita Falls. The Oil Bowl pits Oklahoma and Texas prep stars against each other.
After a severe thunderstorm rolled through the Wichita Falls area, Oil Bowl officials made the decision to cancel the game for the first time in the event’s history.
“We are sincerely sorry there were so many disappointed people because the Oil Bowl Game had to be canceled when the lightning and thunderstorms moved through Wichita Falls on Saturday night,” stated officials at Oilbowl.com. “We will not be refunding the cost of tickets sold to attend the game. Please remember that all proceeds from this game to Texas and Oklahoma charities. The profit from the game is divided between Texas and Oklahoma. Texas donates their share to the Wichita Falls North Texas Rehabilitation Center. Oklahoma’s share is given to the Oklahoma Coaches Association charities.”
The game will not be made up. Westmoore's Cameron Pound was scheduled to compete in the game. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound lineman will play for Sam Houston State University next year.
