The OSSAA All-State softball game is set for Saturday at the University of Oklahoma. The small schools play at 11 a.m., and the middle size schools at 1 p.m. Class 5A-6A take the field at 3 p.m.
Area schools will be well represented in the finale as four players will take part in the game as part of the Large West squad..
Moore is sending Hannah Coker while Rachel Rischard and Kendra Pierce will represent Westmoore. Southmoore, which was the 6A runner-up in the state title chase, has Haley Strawn playing.
“I’m very happy and excited for Haley Strawn,” Southmoore coach Jason Lingo said. “I knew that she was a no-brainer when it came to slowpitch all-state. She was one of the best performing players in the state over the past two years and she deserves the starting spot that she got.”
This will be Robert Wakefield’s final all-state game as the Moore High coach. Even though he has taken over the Mid-American Christian University softball program, he wants to be on hand at the game.
“I will be there for two reasons,” Wakefield said. “One for Hannah and two see if there is any girls that have not signed to play college ball,” Wakefield said. “It will be tough but I have been so busy with trying to find girls to play at MACU I have been going in circles. But I will miss it greatly.”
The Moore School Board approved the hiring of three new coaches Monday.
Tony Borum was hired as Moore’s baseball coach. He replaced David Hinckley, who was suspended during the middle of the season and then retired after 35 years at MHS.
Before accepting the job at Moore, Borum had been the 8th grade head baseball and football coach at Carl Albert Middle School. He also has coaching experience at Southeast and Douglass high schools.
Craig Troxell will take over the Southmoore baseball team. He is replacing Shannon Endfield, who resigned right before the start of the postseason.
Troxell leaves Midwest City where he had been the coach for 10 years. He is coming off a 17-18 record with the Bombers.
Darin Davis is the new swim coach at Southmoore High. He is the first person to hold the position. Moore coach Rhonda Nelson had been in charge of the Lions and SaberCats.
Davis is a teacher at Southmoore.
