Report: Thunder get meeting with Durant before free agency period

Thunder set to open season against Spurs

Thunder forward Kevin Durant talks with coach Billy Donovan during the Thunder's preseason game against Denver at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

We learned early Wednesday morning that Kevin Durant had scheduled a meeting with Golden State in the Hamptons for Friday afternoon. Now, we know the time of Oklahoma City's meeting with the summer's top free agent: Before free agency even begins.

From ESPN's Chris Broussard:

It's hard to say if there is anything to read into with the times of the meetings.

Sure, Durant could be scheduling the Thunder first because they're priority No. 1. He also could be doing it then because they are the only team he is allowed to meet with before July 1 — since he is technically still under contract with them until then — and he wants to get to the Hamptons in time for July 4 weekend. Or maybe he just wants to get these meetings done with as soon as possible and meeting with OKC early helps accomplish that.

Unfortunately, I lost my mind-reading skills years ago.

Durant won't convene with just the Thunder in Oklahoma City and the Warriors in New York. Broussard reported he will also meet with San Antonio, Miami, Boston and the L.A. Clippers during the first "few days" of July.
